Default Has anyone used this Schroth-related website?

    SpineHarmony - Home

I just came across this site recently, it's quite interesting. Canadian it appears, and says it's Schroth "inspired." There are two sample videos of exercises, decent quality. They say the customize it for an individual's curve (based on a few questions..). It's tempting to consider, but at $99 for 3 months, not exactly a bargain. Just wondering what others folks think, or if anyone has used it. The Schroth book is so technical, so there is probably a place for videos likes this when the cost of working with a Schroth-trained practitioner is prohibitive. But how could one ever be sure they were doing it correctly?
This is Not like yoga or pilates which are good for most everyone's body (tho injuries do occur with them). On the other hand, it's good to see some efforts at offering alternatives, even if it does have to come from Canada.

    This is a terrible idea!
I have work with 1000's of scoliosis patients and I have yet to see two identical cases.....a prescription for a general scoliosis exercise plan is guaranteed failure. This is why the general public is so skeptical of physiotherapy based scoliosis treatment programs.......

    Another step backwards I guess.....(sigh)

    Default Possible concearn

Thanks AG63 for bringing that to our attention.

I did contact someone certified with the Schroth method and asked about SpineHarmony.

He had viewed the site, but did not know more about it or who was behind it. He did say "My concern is the patient performing the exercises properly without proper supervision."

I guess that there needs to be some attention to detail to get the exercises right in the beginning.

Default Options for adults - Schroth?

This is the first I have heard of Scroth. My online research today was prompted by my viewing of a set of x-rays taken at a chiropractic consult today. I was treated for scoliosis as a child, curve improved some, and the sent me on my way....and here I am, 37, with problems of course! I am wondering what my best options are. I see a physical therapist. I went for a consult with a chirporactor today. I have seen strap-type braces on line, and now I am reading about this Schroth method. Do we have a general consensus here at this forum?

    Hi Curvy37,

I think Schroth is a fine non-surgical approach to scoliosis treatment, but it does still rely on bracing methods as well (I'm not a fan). Plus, Schroth seems to be very limited on the involuntary neuro-muscular re-education of the postural control centers in the brain.....that is turning out to be a big piece of the puzzle. No one program has it all figured out, but I believe the CLEAR Institute, (check out the 5 min intro video on the front page... Non Surgical Scoliosis Treatment, Non Bracing Scoliosis Treatment) may have the most complete program to date.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am a co-director of the non-profit side of the organization.

    Default

from what i understand, braces are only used in schroth therapy when a child or adolescent is still growing (and even then, i'm not sure it's prescribed all the time). i do schroth, i'm 26 and started it a few months ago, and a brace was never prescribed to me...

also, before starting schroth, i researched both the clear institute method and schroth extensively and weighed the pros and cons of each. schroth won out hugely over clear institute for a number of reasons...mainly because of the huge time and financial investment that the clear institute would have needed. it would have been THOUSANDS of dollars more. also, schroth seems to be more empowering because you rely on yourself only instead of needing machines or practitioners to help you.

now, i would have put the time and money into the clear institute if there was a money back guarantee that my spine would become totally straight. but, since neither clear institute nor schroth was promising that, i went with the method that seemed the best fit for me. just my two cents

Default Schroth at Stevens Point WI

I spoke to a rep of the Schroth clinic in Stevens Point, and the rep clarified for me that braces would not be used in an adult. I am taking steps to plan for the cost (contacting insurance) and figuring out when I can go. I have not made a firm decision. The Stevens Point clinic is closest to me, but it's still 3 hours away.
