The approach of Watching and Waiting is what is offered by the medical community for small scoliosis curves. If your scoliosis curve is below 20 degrees the doctor will just ask you to return 6 months later for another check up. That is not a solution.
I believe that this is a wrong approach to Idiopathic Scoliosis management.
With this in mind, today I am starting E-SMART, an open organization for patients, parents and therapists that are convinced that the attitude of Watching and Waiting is not for them, and that an active approach is the best management for small curves.
In short, E-SMART endorses early intervention when small curves are detected so as to prevent deterioration of the curve ; and looks at the different non surgical treatments available but does not recommend or favour one over the other.

E-SMART™ will suggest treatments, interventions and lifestyle advice that we feel suitable for Early Scoliosis Management Active Rehabilitation Treatment and we will review these recommendations twice a year. E-SMART™ will also highlight activities that we feel could have negative impact on scoliosis development.
E-SMART™ will try to include references as much as we can when we give recommendations, but we must point out that these recommendations and guidelines are often not proven with scientific criteria unless otherwise specified, but based on our understanding and knowledge of idiopathic scoliosis.
We currently don’t recommend one treatment over another, but we are convinced that Watch & wait is not for us.
